Priorities and Budget consultation logo

We are reaching the mid-point of the delivery of our current strategic plan which sets out what we want to achieve for our community between 2020 and 2024. The plan helps us to focus on what is important locally and direct our resources where they will have the most impact.

We would like your views on whether our priorities are still the right ones for the Lichfield District, how we continue to meet these priorities and shape our budget for the next financial year.

The information you provide through this consultation will be used to inform discussions and decisions on our spending priorities over the next year and beyond.

The final budget decision for our next financial year (2022 to 2023) will be made at a meeting of the full council in February 2022.

The feedback we received last year helped inform a number of key decisions on our budgets, priorities and services for this year including reducing grant funding to the Lichfield Garrick Theatre – one of only two areas where a majority of residents were in favour of reduced spending.

The majority of respondents to last year’s survey (86%) indicated that an increase in council tax would be acceptable with 63% telling us an increase of 2% or £5 would be acceptable. In February 2021, we approved an increase of 2% (or £5 extra for an average Band D property) 2021/22.

The largest proportion of respondents last year (68%) felt our approach to fees was currently about right or that no additional fees should be introduced. The most significant of our fees and charges, such as garden waste subscriptions, were once again frozen at the start of the year. We took a similar approach to maintaining car parking charges, but these are now currently under review.
